Why "Gecko"?

A name that had to fit the vibe

It took time, like any birth, to land on a name that felt right. When "Gecko" came up, it just clicked:
  • Geckos are cute, a little crazy, and genuinely live here in Fuerteventura
  • Gecko is also the name of a classic windsurf freestyle move
  • It connects the island to the sport — and it's just a nice word

Teaching windsurfing for over 25 years, Martin started at his local club in Varna, Bulgaria, racing in the Olympic class and becoming national champion. VDWS-certified since 2011, he's taught in Portugal and Fuerteventura, and started Gecko to bring his experience directly to each student — small groups, clear feedback, and a real focus on sailing safely and independently. He teaches in English, Spanish, Dutch, and Bulgarian.

Martin is from Ljubljana — not much windsurfing there! Luckily, his parents had a summer house in Croatia, where he started windsurfing at the age of 9. He learned mostly by himself, and is currently Gecko's main instructor, teaching windsurfing and wingfoiling. He speaks English, Spanish, Italian, and Slovenian.
